# Install Panther

> Get the desktop app for macOS or Windows, or use Panther in your browser.

Panther runs as a **desktop app** for macOS and Windows and as a **web app** in your browser. The desktop app has the full feature set and is the best experience for active trading; the web app needs nothing to install.

        Download the latest macOS version (`.dmg`) from the [downloads page](https://getpanther.app).

        Open the downloaded `.dmg`, drag **Panther** into your **Applications** folder, then eject the disk image.

      <Step title="Open it the first time">
        The first time you launch, macOS may warn that the app is from an unidentified developer. To open it:

        1. Right-click (or Control-click) **Panther** in Applications.
        2. Choose **Open**.
        3. Click **Open** in the dialog.

        You only need to do this once. After that, open it normally.

        Run the installer and follow the prompts. The default install location is recommended.

        Windows Defender SmartScreen may show a warning on first launch. Click **More info**, then **Run anyway**. Launch Panther from the Start menu or your desktop shortcut.

    Open [getpanther.app](https://getpanther.app) in any modern browser. There's nothing to install — you can start browsing markets immediately, and sign in when you want to trade.

      For the smoothest charts and lowest latency during active trading, we recommend the desktop app.

## Keeping Panther up to date

The desktop app checks for updates automatically and prompts you when a new version is ready. The web app is always up to date — just refresh.
